Since Eric Ludy’s sermon delivery style is so unorthodox in our modern day of Christian teaching, it seemed an interview on the subject was in order.
Q: Can you describe for us why everyone considers your style “unusual”?
Eric Ludy: It could have something to do with my volume. I can blow up the battery in a standard hearing-aid in a matter of twenty-minutes with my preaching. I mean, who needs a microphone when you have a volcano of passion gushing within your soul? And I would say my preaching style is different simply because it’s really “preaching.” Preaching is unusual in our day of people-pleasing messages. Not to mention that my messages usually come with eighteen pages of notes packed full of Scripture and most of my messages are about an hour and a half long. These things catch people a little off guard at first!

Q: When did you start putting this curriculum together?
Eric Ludy: As a Christian author and speaker, material is everything. I guess you could say, this curriculum was being written long before it was ever actually written. For the first ten years of our ministry, Leslie and I were always building material (whether it was writing a book or preparing a message for a speaking event). So, the work system for developing material was honed long before I realized how desperately I was going to be needing it. I’m a guy who loves systems. I like to understand process. I love maps. Discipleship is a process and so, much of what I was learning and observing in my own spiritual development I was chronicling, examining, and testing against the Word of God. This was definitely the start.
